Abundance of Herbs

Herbs are it! Kristi Marshall, who has passionately grown and harvested herbs for over 25 years, will be the speaker at the Falmouth Garden Club’s membership meeting on Monday, April 1, 2019; her presentation, “Abundance of Herbs”. Since moving from Illinois to Massachusetts in 2009, Kristi has turned her joy of working with herbs into a small flavor-based business. In addition to herbs, Kristi grows peppers, berries, garlic and gourds in her Marion garden. She produces and sells savory herb and pepper jellies along with syrups, herbal teas, dried whole herbs, and a variety of seasonings. She uses her own fresh-cut herbs to produce unique flavor combinations, plans her production around peak harvest times, and encourages the use of whole dried herbs rather than crushed supermarket varieties. The “Abundance of Herbs” presentation will focus on using and preserving herbs from the garden. Kristi will discuss how the infusion process can transfer and maximize the essence of herbs long after the harvest. A hands-on workshop will follow where participants will learn to blend their own salad dressings, have an opportunity to make an herbal bath tea, and be able to take home the results of their experiments. The Falmouth Garden Club meeting will be held at the First Congregational Church of Falmouth located on the Falmouth Green. The morning meeting starts with refreshments at 9:30 am; the program begins at 10:00 am. Non-members and walk-in guests are welcome to attend for a $5 donation. The Falmouth Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Club, Inc., Northeast Region, and the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Southeastern District.
